The Thames Bend, Walk to Hammersmith River Pubs

When you feel like getting some space, but don’t have time to get out of the city, I always think there’s a lot to be said for a walk along the Thames!  From Putney to Hammersmith (and beyond to Mortlake/Barnes/Kew/Chiswick/Richmond if you’re feeling up for it) offers up a great walk, whether north or south river edge.  It really does open out that way,  with lower rise buildings and the river putting some space among it all – I always try to take people there that say London living isn’t for them, as you could think yourself out of the city!!

This weekend I joined my friends on a…. I’m holding back from saying pub crawl, I don’t think it shows it in the right light, walking along the river, enjoying the view, intermittently drinking in pubs…. ok I guess it was a pub crawl.

Given rivers are a magnet for watering holes, there’s lots to choose from but going from Putney to Hammersmith on the North side, some of my favourites are The Crabtree, The Dove, The Black Lion – locations below, I marked them in yellow in case you don’t read maps well 😉 the one in the Middle being The Dove.  The Cross Keys is also a fave but you have to cross the main road (via an underpass) away from the river, great for watching sport actually as they have a large screen.
