Prawn on the Lawn, Islington

A short walk from Highbury & Islington Station is fishmonger and restaurant Prawn on the Lawn.

If you are a lover of seafood, this place is a definite GO TO.  Its menu offers some beautiful small plates and some more substantial platter/crab/prawn options; it’s simple and oh so effective, if these fish were alive, they’d definitely be talking.

Upstairs is the fishmonger part which has a small amount of seating available for walk-ins.  Downstairs is the small inviting basement dining room.

So what did my party of three go for?  Amaretto Sours (what a delightful aperitif!), seared tuna, scallops, 1/2 pint of prawns, a dressed hen crab, homemade soda bread, a salad and a bottle of white.  Total £97 + Service.  We thought we may need to order a few more plates but that was definitely a “nicely full” fill.  It was a great meal with friendly service, so totally recommendable.

I have all too late thought I should have asked what the secret was to the crab dipping sauce (Vietnamese inspired perhaps?) and the paprika creme fraiche (made with paprika perhaps?)… and I didn’t even have the dish that was called “Prawn on the Lawn”… I’ll have to go back 😉

CHEERS PRAWN ON THE LAWN!!
